Highlights of the SPLEENE HAZE
What´s new?
The new HAZE is a real technological leap forward and sets new benchmarks. The performance delta shape and the profile have been optimized for big air. The tips have been moved back slightly to make the bar forces more controllable, especially at the high end. The result is a much more agile kite. In the transition to the tips, the profile of the HAZE is very flat, in contrast to the center, which makes the kite extremely fast without sacrificing propulsion. Despite its high agility, the HAZE is stable in the sky - front stall is a thing of the past, especially compared to similar kites in this league.
The sweep of the leading edge has also been revised. Doubling the panels creates a harmonious curve from the center to the tips, eliminating potential kinks. We have also recalculated the diameter of the front tube, especially at the transition points to the tips, to increase stability. The flexible tips also ensure that gusts are gently cushioned.
The HAZE is the next kite in our Pro Line after the SQUID. Here we rely on next-gen high performance materials - the new “Formula 1 technology” of the kite industry. These materials are super light, yet stable and durable. For the front tube and strut material, we use a new development from Challenge in the USA, which is significantly lighter than conventional Dacron. The new composite coating increases durability and tear resistance. Lighter bladders from German production are now also used in the HAZE in the front tube and struts.
The 3-fold ripstop flying cloth comes from the Japanese premium manufacturer Techfiber and offers one of the best tensile and tear strengths on the market, while being lighter than 4-fold ripstop and having less white breakage. The Trailing Edge has no cloth doubling, which prevents water from accumulating. All patches on the kite have been scrutinized and only the relevant reinforcements have been retained.
With all these measures that characterize our Pro Line kites, we now offer you access to super light yet extremely stable kites. We deliberately avoid fancy marketing names for the materials used and instead let facts and figures do the talking: The HAZE 9m weighs just 3,000g, putting it at the top of the weight rankings.
The HAZE is supplied with the well-known Adaptive Bridle System from SPLEENE as standard. On request, we also offer a fixed bridle system that makes the kite even more direct. With the extended bridle modes, the kite can be perfectly adapted to your requirements and skills.
Easy handling & intuitive jumping
Key feature of a good freeride kite? Easy handling and plenty of power! You want to concentrate on kiting, not on your kite. And you want to jump high. Only flying is better. This is your new HAZE kite.
Start your session in the lightest breeze. When the wind picks up, the real fun begins: jumping! This is where the HAZE shows its best side. Whether you actively build up line tension over the edge or simply steer the kite backwards - the performance delta shape lifts you powerfully into the air. When landing, it sets you down smoothly and in a controlled way.
And if the kite does fall in the water, relaunching is extremely easy. Even in light winds, one pull on the steering line is enough. Thanks to the new, extra smooth sweep of the leading edge through the double-cut panels, the kite moves effortlessly to the edge of the wind window and launches easily. Of course, you can also launch the HAZE backwards using both steering lines.
XXL wind range
The newly developed profile of the HAZE provides enormous propulsion without sacrificing speed. With the defined profile in the kite center, you can glide effortlessly even in light winds - without any major kite movements. The flat profile in the transition to the tips keeps the kite extremely fast.
The tips of the HAZE are slightly pulled back to improve the leverage ratio so that the kite remains easy to control even in the high-end range. The optimized bridle setting balances the power distribution perfectly between hook and bar, which enables the HAZE to deliver maximum depower. This means you can also fly a size larger to get even higher.
New to the range are the 8m and 10.5m sizes, which complete the spectrum from 7m to 12m. These closely graduated sizes now offer you the perfect choice for your individual preferences, kite spots and wind strengths - and ensure maximum safety right into the strong wind range.
Mega hangtime & massive megaloops
The power of the HAZE is particularly evident in the air. The Performance-Delta-Shape ensures a large, free wing area in the center, resulting in impressive hangtime. You can enjoy your flights to the full, with enough time for board-offs and other tricks - including a gentle touchdown.
The Adaptive Bridle System is perfectly tuned for high flights. When powered up, i.e. with the bar fully pulled down, the two pulleys and the slider stabilize the curve of the HAZE so that the kite remains open and offers maximum wing area.
“Go big, megaloop ... and keep the kite low?” No problem with the new HAZE! The newly developed profile, flat at the tips and pronounced in the kite center, makes the kite particularly fast, especially when looping through. The lowest point of the profile, the so-called center of pressure, has been moved back so that the HAZE rises again at lightning speed after looping. This gives you a whole new level of security and confidence for your megaloops. For maximum agility, we recommend the fixed bridle system in agility mode.
Direct feeling & maximum agility
The Gemini-4-Strut design of the HAZE sets new standards in terms of responsiveness and turning speed. The absence of a center strut enables significantly better torsion, which ensures extremely direct steering. You'll be surprised how fast and agile a freeride kite can be.
The HAZE's short bridles transmit steering impulses without delay, allowing the kite to be send into the desired position with lightning speed and precision - particularly important for megaloops. For even more direct handling, we recommend the optional fixed bridle system. Equipped with just one slider, the HAZE becomes even more aggressive.
The bar feel of the HAZE is progressively tuned and gives you optimum feedback. You always know exactly where your kite is and can decide for yourself whether you want to glide relaxed or fly through the air fully powered up. Thanks to the wide range of adjustment options for the tip and bridle, you can customize the balance between bar and hook forces.
Individual bridle mode tuning
The HAZE offers you three attachment points on the tips so that you can individually adjust the bar forces and turning speed. Heavier kiters (> 85 kg) are best off choosing the middle (standard) or inner attachment point. Lighter kiters (< 75 kg) can also use the outer attachment if required.
An additional option has been added to the bridle modes of the HAZE. While there are still three points available on the outer knot, there are now also two options on the inner knot. This allows you to move the bridle without changing the length ratios of the bridle.
In agility mode, the kite becomes more direct and faster - perfect for extreme megaloops. Light kiters (< 75 kg) can get the most out of this mode by going on both bridles points inwards. Heavier kiters (> 85 kg) will find the perfect setup in the middle point, which is also the default setting.
In Stability Mode, the agility of the HAZE is reduced so that the kite reacts more calmly and remains stable in the sky during freestyle moves. This setting is ideal for relaxed freeriding or practising new tricks without the kite quickly “ pulling out”. The bar forces are also slightly reduced in this setting.
A special extra for tuning enthusiasts: the HAZE comes with the Adaptive Bridle System as standard, which is equipped with two pulleys and a slider. This system permanently adapts the kite profile to the wind, which means that gusts are gently absorbed and steering maneuvers are implemented harmoniously. For more extreme flight behavior, we recommend the optionally available Fixed Bridle System. Equipped with just one slider, the HAZE becomes significantly more aggressive and direct - perfect for competition mode and extreme megaloops.
Multi talent for every use
At SPLEENE, we ensure that our products cover a wide range of uses. Your HAZE is therefore not only an outstanding freeride kite, but is also great for foiling and wave riding. Thanks to its easy handling and perfectly controllable power, it offers all the important features you need for your foil or wave session. Its extreme agility allows the kite to follow your moves with ease - the Bridle Modes are particularly helpful here. Simply switch to Agility Mode to exploit its full potential.
As a Pro Line kite with Next-Gen high performance materials, the HAZE is also extremely light. This is particularly important in light winds, such as when foiling. The kite remains stable in the sky even in the lightest breeze. This is also a big advantage in the waves - nobody wants to risk their kite dropping.
The HAZE is also perfect for freestyle and wakestyle moves. In stability mode, the kite remains stable in the sky during your handle pass moves and offers plenty of slack for further rotations or grabs.
If the kite does hit the water, relaunching it is child's play. Even in light winds, one pull on the steering line is enough. The HAZE can also be launched backwards very easily using both steering lines.
What´s the technology behind the SPLEENE HAZE?
Never stop innovating. The HAZE combines refined design details with high-end materials and the best workmanship. The result is one of the best freeride kites on the market.
Pro Line Kites
The HAZE is our second Pro Line kite after the SQUID. Pro Line kites are equipped with Next-Gen materials and manufactured in a very complex production process.
The core of the Pro Line is the use of super-light Code 155P Dacron from the premium sailcloth manufacturer Challange from the USA. We are deliberately avoiding fancy marketing terms for the new material here and sticking to facts and figures: The HAZE 9m with 4 struts weighs just 3,000g!
Our Pro Line kites are characterized by numerous other features: The new bladder material comes from German production and also reduces the overall weight of the kite.
Reinforcements are only used in high-stress areas and are made from lightweight materials. This is where 15 years of kite development really pay off. The 3x ripstop canopy used comes from the Japanese premium manufacturer Techfiber. Its tensile strength and tear resistance values are among the best on the market, while it is lighter than a 4x ripstop canpopy and has less white breakage. The high-quality coating allows water to roll off immediately. The absence of canopy doublings means that water cannot accumulate in the kite and make it slow and heavy.
Every detail of the kite is made with the best materials. The manufacturing technology sets new standards in kite production.
Performance-Delta-Shape
Freeride kites classically come in a Delta-Shape, whereby the term Delta is derived from the shape of the tips. Typically, a Delta-Shape kite has a greater aspect ratio (aspect ratio), the ratio of length to height, than a wave kite, and is flatter in design - less curved (arc) than a wave kite or an extremely curved C-Kite. This design offers a lot of drive surface in the kite center, which leads to an early start, excellent hangtime and a lot of power without having to move the kite a lot. The swept leading edge ensures a pleasant bar feel and makes relaunching easier.
In recent years, the aspect ratio and arc parameters have been adapted to the requirements of the megaloop. An extremely stretched and flat kite is often sluggish and difficult to loop. With our HAZE, we have always focused on agility rather than “tractor”-like handling. The sweep of the leading edge and the slightly backward tips have been optimized to make the bar forces more controllable. This improves the high-end range of the kite in particular. The agility also increases significantly with the new sweep and enables a bridle setting that allows the kite to fly more freely, brings it further to the edge of the wind window and offers more depower - ideal characteristics for precise megaloops and a safe catch.
Gemini-4-Strut Design
SPLEENE only bases the number of struts on the perfect stability-to-weight ratio. We don't need an odd number of struts just to give the kite a center strut. Why? Because it is not necessary! Even if the marketing of other manufacturers tries to tell you otherwise.
We consistently rely on a 4-strut design for our freeride kites. Four struts are lighter than five and offer sufficient stability with the new material. This weight-optimized setup works excellently in light winds and when foiling, as the kite is very stable in the sky.
The Gemini-4-Strut design has another decisive advantage: without a center strut, the kite can twist perfectly around the longitudinal axis and implements steering commands immediately. At the same time, the kite is optimally streamlined in the center, which generates enormous lift and propulsion. The result is an ultra fast kite with an impressively large wind range and exceptional hangtime.
Adaptive Bridle System & Fixed Bridle Option
The 4-point Adaptive Bridle of the HAZE has two pulleys and a slider. It continuously adapts the kite profile to the wind and gently absorbs gusts. Even during radical maneuvers, the Adaptive Bridle System ensures ultra fast adjustment and a harmonious reaction of the kite. When the bar is fully pulled down, the kite remains open and offers maximum wing area for your jumps.
On request, a Fixed Bridle System is also available for the HAZE, which only includes a slider. This system makes the kite more direct and aggressive, so that every bar movement is converted immediately. With the Fixed Bridle System, you are in competition mode: megaloops are possible with precise control and you can choose the radius depending on your skills and courage.
Double Cut Panels
Delta-Shape kites require an evenly curved leading edge for optimum performance and a smooth relaunch. An angular transition not only looks unappealing, but can also lead to kinking. An even sweep also ensures that the kite sets up for restart without resistance at the edge of the wind window. We have therefore doubled the number of panels in the transition to the tips and eliminated potential kinks.
In addition, we have redesigned the diameter and shape of the front tube, especially in the transition area to the tips, to ensure greater stability. The flexible tips continue to provide gentle cushioning from gusts.
